Smith Escapes The Mayhem But Ends Up With Engine Troubles In Kansas

KANSAS CITY, KS (May 3, 2010)- Smith was extremely excited to get the long awaited debut of his NCWTS race underway, as he qualified his #90 Toyota in a respectable 19th position a day earlier. However, only 42 laps into the O’Reilly Auto Parts 250, a frustrated Smith found himself parking his Toyota Tundra and finishing out the day in 29th position.

The race began at the Kansas Speedway at 1:00 PM EST Sunday afternoon with several yellow caution flags flying early in the race for competitors spinning and crashing on the racetrack. Smith informed crew chief Trip Bruce that his truck was “loose” and Bruce just wanted Smith to have some green laps to get a good feel for the adjustments needed on the truck”. Bruce and the #90 Stringer Motorsports Racing Team would eventually get the chance to bring Smith to pit road, and made slight adjustments to tighten the truck. As Smith took the restart on lap 42, he quickly realized going into turn one there was something wrong with his engine.

“I sure wish we could have had some long green lap runs”. Our truck was a Top-10 truck for sure, so this was a real bummer to not be able to get the full race behind us. I hope to be behind the wheel of this #90 truck again this season, and I really appreciate the opportunity that Doug Stringer gave me. Working with Trip and his crew really gave me a great feeling of comfort my first time out in the NCWTS.” Smith said.

“Jesse did a real good job out there staying out of trouble with all the trucks wrecking around him. He really didn’t have a chance to feel the adjustments with no long green flag runs. There were too many cautions for him to get settled in. Hopefully Jesse will get back into a truck again really soon and be able to get some experience racing them.” Bruce said.

Brad Sweet will find himself back behind the wheel of the #90 truck once again for the next race on the schedule for the Stringer Motorsports Team. That race will be the North Carolina Education Lottery at the Charlotte Motor Speedway, May 21st, 2010. The race will air live on SPEED TV beginning at 7:30PM EST.
